Jack D. Embrey, age 91, of Topeka, passed away July 27, 2018. He was born July 28, 1926 in Seymour (Webster County) Missouri, the son of Charles Erman Embrey and Opal (Denney) Embrey.

Jack graduated from Seymour High School in 1944. He served in the Navy during WWII and was recalled to active duty in 1951 during the Korean conflict. He married O. Lucille Decker of Fort Lupton, Colorado on December 17, 1947. Jack graduated from the University of Denver in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree.

Following military service, he began a 38 year career with the Santa Fe Railroad (now BNSF) in 1952 in the test department. (later-Technical Research and Development) in Topeka as a laboratory chemist. In 1973 he was promoted to Chief Chemist. Jack retired December 1, 1986 as manager - Chemical Services (TR&D). During the years of 1955 to 1965 he was Road Chemist-Coast Lines with headquarters in San Bernardino, CA.

He was a member of the American Chemical Society; a life member of the American Legion Post #1, Topeka; past president (2001) of the Santa Fe Retiree Club; charter member of both the BNSF golf and bowling leagues; NARVE (National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees; former member of Shawnee Country Club. Jack was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Lou; three daughters, Sandi (Jim) Gettins, Venice, CA.; Sheri Diehl, Topeka; Brenda (Randall) Exon, Wallingford, PA; granddaughter, Stephanie Greenman, New York, NY; four grandsons, Erich (Jo Ann) Obst, Temecula, CA, Arron (Krystal) Obst, Carlsbad, CA, Jeremy Barger, Topeka, Jason Wendt, Topeka; three great grandsons; his brother, Bill (Laverne) Embrey, Crowley, TX; his sister, Annice Scott, Little Rock, AR; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Rey who passed away at the age of 5 (1963) while the family was living in Rialto, CA, his parents, and his sister Anita Addington.

Memorial services will be held August 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd. Topeka, KS 66611. Immediately following the service, inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the Veterans Memorial Garden.
