Jack L. Baker, 75, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at his home. He was born February 9, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of George J. and Hazel (Trent) Baker.
Jack was raised in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Turner High School in 1958. After high school, Jack served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years, and then joined the U.S. Army Reserves where he became a Chinook helicopter pilot. He married Corde Buckman in Kansas City, Kansas.
Jack worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as an engineer for 37 years, retiring in 1999.
Survivors include sons, Gary L. Baker, Overland Park, KS, Terry L. Baker, Overland Park, KS, Keven M. Baker, Overland Park, KS and Bryce Baker of Topeka, KS; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, and a brother, Steve Baker of Kansas City, KS.
Jack was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Grace Church of Overland Park, 8500 W. 159th Street in Overland Park, Kansas. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment of the cremated remains will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 10th at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
