Jack Ralph Mitchell, 82, Topeka, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born May 30, 1925 in Hylton, Texas, the son of Charles and Della Campbell Mitchell. He graduated from Brownfield, TX High School in 1942, and attended Abilene Christian College, Abilene, TX, before joining the US Navy. He served in the Navy during WW2 in the Pacific Campaign, and was discharged in 1953.
Mr. Mitchell retired from the US Postal Service in Shawnee Mission in 1988. He had lived in Topeka since 1998.
He married Helen M. Mittlestadt on May 22, 1948 in Oakland, CA. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Charles Mitchell of Topeka and Steven Mitchell of Lawrence, and a brother, Fred Mitchell of Fort Stockton, TX.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-11 am Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
