James A. Stevens, 44, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at a local hospital.
James was born January 6, 1965 in Stephenville, Newfoundland, the son of Ronald and Emmy Lou (Scribner) Stevens. He held dual citizenship in both the United States and Canada. He grew up in Massachusetts, Okinawa, Japan, Maine and Kansas. He attended elementary school in Okinawa, Japan, also the Shawnee Height's district and high school in the Topeka School district, graduating from the Hope Street School at Capper Foundation.
He was a member of the Topeka Chargers and participated in the Special Olympics. He worked at Quaker Oats, Fed Ex, and at Dillard's for 13 years before retiring.
Survivors include his parents and sister; Suzanne Meredith (Timothy) Mesa, all of Topeka, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
