James "Harper" Dougan, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020. He was born July 19, 1933 in Topeka, the son of Louis Frank and Mary (Adams) Dougan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Louis "Frank" Dougan.
Harper graduated from Topeka High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Literature from the University of Kansas. After college he traveled the world exploring all things artistic and beautiful. His travels took him throughout Europe and the Orient and provided him with numerous stories to share with friends.
Harper eventually settled in Scottsdale, Arizona where he worked as an interior designer. He loved to help friends entertain and was an amazing floral designer. His wit was unmatched and he always had a snappy response in any given situation. He could always make those around him smile.
Harper loved the comic strip Peanuts and lived by the words of the immortal Snoopy. "We only die once. We live every day". Harper lived his life to the fullest and shared his spirit with everyone. His kind heart will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Colleen Dougan, his niece, M. Jill Dougan-Dykes, and two great nieces, Skyler Elise Dykes and Hannah Grace Dykes.
As per James's wishes, cremation has taken place and no memorial services are planned. Private inurnment will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.
