James E. "Jim" Doherty, 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014.
He was born April 16, 1931 in Halls Summit, Kansas, the son of Harold Thomas and Orene (Lafferty) Doherty. He was a graduate of Burlington High School.
Mr. Doherty was employed by Dupont Cellophane Plant in Tecumseh, KS, retiring in 1986.
Jim married Nadine L. Eccles on December 13, 1953 near Gridley, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three children, Deborah Desch, Tecumseh, Diana (Andy) Lowe, Louisburg, KS and Donald (Doreena) Doherty, Topeka; five grandchildren, Michael (Victoria) Lowe, Lawrence, Brian Lowe, Louisburg, Craig (Kim) Lowe, Farmington, NM, Daryn Doherty, Topeka and Devon Doherty, Topeka; a great-granddaughter, Emma Lowe, Lawrence; and a sister, Beverly Baldwin, Jefferson City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son-in-law, Michael Desch.
A funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Emmanuel Cemetery, Berryton, KS. The family will receive friends a hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St #100, Topeka, KS 66614.
