James Edward Cunningham, Sr., 66, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his home in Topeka, KS.
James was born December 11, 1948, in Independence, KS, to Clanton, II and Elizabeth Cunningham. He graduated from Topeka High and then was drafted into the US Army where he served in the Vietnam War. James was also a truck driver and a culinary chef.
He is survived by his companion, Karla Smith; children, Michael Cunningham, Kila Smith, Michelle Jenkins, Chaka Britt and Cookie Robinson of Topeka, KS, De'Angela Williams-Wallace of Houston, TX, Ellen Denise Captain of Bryan, TX, and Antonio and James Cunningham, Jr. of Wichita, KS; 25 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; ten siblings, Daisy, Jerry, David, Lovely, Malcolm and Shawn Cunningham, Donald Parker, Jr., Denise King, Firby Coleman, and Karen Hood; and a host of nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his daughter, De'Angela Lynn Cunningham; parents; and brother, Charles Cunningham, III.
The family will have a private burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
