James "Jim" Finley Miller, 67, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Topeka. He was born on September 13, 1942 in Niobrara, NE, the son of Gailen D. and Faye Finley Miller. He graduated from Page High School in Page, NE.
Jim was a Navy and Army veteran, serving his country for over 20 years, including three tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked Federal Civil Service at Fort Riley before taking medical retirement. Jim resided in Junction City until moving to Topeka in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Jim married Judith A. McCoy on June 3, 1980 in Fort Riley. She survives. Other survivors include one son; Justin J. Miller of Phoenix, AZ, one daughter; Jenna E. Miller of Topeka, one step-son; Steven R. DePew of Iowa, two sisters; Marcia Smith of Sacramento, CA, Dale Hubbard of Chico, CA and one brother; Grant Miller of Chico, CA. He was preceded in death by one step-daughter; Michelle K. DePew in November of 1996.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Graveside committal services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd. in Manhattan, where Military Honors will be provided by a burial detail from Fort Riley. Jim will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 S.W.
