James F. Howser, 73, of Topeka, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018.
He was born August 10, 1944, in Monterey, California, the son of Floyd William and Gertie Glendola (Stidham) Howser. He was a 1962 graduate of Hoisington High School, Hoisington, KS. He attended Fort Hays State on a football scholarship. While at Fort Hays he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity whose motto is "better men for a better world." He received a Bachelor's Degree at Washburn University and a Master's Degree from University of Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War.
James was employed by New York Department of Corrections retiring as Deputy Superintendent of Programs at the Hudson Correctional Facility.
Mr. Howser was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2401 SW Kingsrow Rd., Topeka, KS.
James is survived by his wife, Julie Howser, married on April 13, 2002 in Topeka; three children, Jessica (Eric Weidman) Howser, Catskill, NY, Sam Huss, Manitowoc, WI and Joddie (Joseph) Milavec, Topeka; two grandchildren, Kayleigh Huss and Cora Weidman; three siblings, Judy (Jim) Fields, North Pole, AK, Roger (Robin) Howser, Edmond, OK and Tammy (Les Rogers) Howser, Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings, Glenda Hensley and Larry Howser.
James enjoyed music, collecting vinyl records, Lionel Train Sets. He was an avid KU fan and his favorite movie was American President.
A memorial ceremony will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2401 SW Kingsrow Rd., Topeka, KS 66614. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
