James W. Hunt, 95, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at a local care center.
Jim was born August 8, 1923 in Earlville, IA., the son of James S. and Muriel (Fletcher) Hunt. He graduated from Manchester High School, attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA and graduated from the University of Kansas.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as an Armorer with a B-26 group.
He was a Civil Engineer and Partner with Van Doren Hazard-Stallings Civil Engineering, retiring after 36 years with that company.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, V.F.W., American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers and the Kansas Engineering Society.
Jim married Mary Bobb on January 20, 1946 in Kansas City, KS. She died May 19, 2009. Survivors include daughters: Jackie Hunt, Olathe, Merrie (Mike Purdon) Lewis, Ozawkie, Cheryl (Joe) Callahan, Manhattan, Sharlene (Jeff) Hunt Ellentuck, Roosevelt, NJ; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sherman.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to Reagan Ranch, V.F.W., or the Kansas University Endowment Association.
