James "Jim" Huttenhoff, 84, passed away December 19, 2016 at Hospice House. He was the youngest child born August 29, 1932 to Otto and Henrietta (Sherman) Huttenhoff. He lived his early years in Eldorado, Kansas. After Butler Junior College, he was a staff sergeant in the US Air Force and was assigned to NSA in Tripoli, Libya and Washington.
Jim came to Washburn University where he played football and joined Alpha Delta fraternity. He remained in Topeka the rest of his life. He enjoyed sports both as a participant and as a spectator. He also enjoyed the employees and his work at the State of Kansas Department of Labor and Department of Human Resources.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Holtwick) Huttenhoff; daughter Chalece Anderson (Gary); granddaughters, Marlyse Tauke (Jason) and Gretchen Wells (Murphy); great-granddaughters, Gracie and Nora Tauke; and his sister Phyllis Menard.
Life became difficult for Jim when he lost his eyesight six years ago but his greatest joy was spending time with and pampering Chalece, Marlyse and Gretchen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 28 at 10AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow.
