James Wilbur "Jim" Ingram, 82, of Topeka, KS passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014.
Jim was born August 1, 1931 to Goldie and Stanley Ingram in Hermitage, MO. He graduated from Urbana High School in Urbana, MO in 1947. Jim attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield for 2 years before joining the Navy in 1952. He married Wilma Byerly of Tribune, KS in 1952. After 53 years of marriage, Wilma passed away. The couple had 2 sons and 1 daughter. After 4 years in the Navy, Jim entered the University of Missouri and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Jim was hired by the Gas Service Company in Kansas City, MO with employment in Joplin, MO; Pittsburg, KS; Mission, KS; the general office in Kansas City, MO as Vice President of Marketing; and moved to Topeka, KS when Western Resources/Westar Energy acquired the Gas Service Co. Jim was an officer of the company for the last 14 years of his career until his retirement. Jim had the opportunity to participate in several other organizations, including: President of Kansas City, MO Industrial Foundation; President of Mission, KS Chamber of Commerce; President of Johnson County Council of Chambers of Commerce; and President of Kansas One Call. He retired from Westar Energy in 1994 after a 34 year career.
In 2006 Jim married Patsy McDonald. He loved playing golf, enjoyed bridge, traveling, and spending time with his many friends. Jim was very active with the Shrine in Topeka, KS. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved Wilma; brothers Gilbert and Dee; and sister, Wandalee.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy McDonald Ingram; brother, Jean Paul (Frieda) Ingram; 3 children, Jim (Eleonore) Ingram, Steve (Nancy) Ingram, and Sheryl (Brad) Max; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker, Topeka, KS on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial tribute at 12:00. Private family burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Jim will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Shriner's Hospital Travel Fund, c/o Arab Shrine, 1305 S Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66612.
