James "Rex" Koppes, 83, of Topeka, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018.
He was born November 4, 1934, in Marysville, Kansas, the son of Ray and Anna (Moehlenstedt) Koppes. He was a graduate of Marysville High School.
Rex owned and operated Rex's Tires for more than 50 years.
He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus of Topeka. Prior to making Topeka his home, he lived in Manhattan and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Rex married Carole (Soelter) McDiffett on May 14, 1988 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Christi Koppes and her husband, Luis Santos, Miami, FL; a step-daughter, Sara McDiffett Lawrence, KS; and two grandchildren, Mia and Alexandra Santos.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Leo Koppes, Glenn Koppes and Margaret Koppes.
Rex enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid sports fan.
A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th St, Topeka, where a Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cottonwood Inc, 2801 W 31st St, Lawrence, KS 66047.
