James L. Lassen, 85, of Topeka, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his home. He was born October 13, 1925 in Parsons, KS, the son of H.L. and Edith (Lyle) Lassen.
James lived in Parsons prior to joining the U.S. Army, and he served his country during WWII as a combat engineer in both Europe, and the South Pacific. He was a sheet metal worker, and a member of Sheet Metal Local 2. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all, he loved his family.
James married Margaret Hoskins on October 15, 1947 in Independence, KS. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Becky Centlivre (Gary), Jane Lassen (Erik), James Neil Lassen; grandchildren, Drew Waters (Michael), Lisa Florez (Pantaleon); great-grandchildren, Sammy Wall, Mikaela Jane Waters; sister, Mary Ann Redman (Dale); sister-in-law, Muriel Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Joseph Patrick Lassen; and a brother Paul "Sonny" Lassen.
James was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas, 2900 SW Oakley Ave, Topeka, KS 66614.
