James R. Lewis

James R. Lewis, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020. He was born March 13, 1934 in Topeka, the son of Clarence and Rona (Roberts) Lewis.

James graduated from Seaman High School. He was a Navy Veteran during the Korean War. He was employed by Kansas Construction in Lawrence for many years before retiring in 1981. He then went to work for Emerson Construction Company for several years. He was a member of Philip-Billard Post No. 1650 of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

James married Beverly Jean Lewis. She preceded him in death on June 12, 2000. He later married Eva Jo "Speedy" Allen. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2020. He was also preceded in death by one son, Tyrone James Lewis on January 14, 2017 and two daughters, Belinda Lewis in 2010 and Brenda Holbert in 2020.

Survivors include children, Shavonne Jones, Michelle Dugan, Amber Lewis (Jacob Fronseca), Kenneth Dugan, David Dugan, Don (Kim) Dugan, Cory Lewis, Mandell Lewis, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his brother, Dwane Lewis.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Masks and social distancing must be observed. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
