James Monroe Williams, 93, of Topeka, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at a Topeka hospital. He was born June 16, 1918 in Idabel, Oklahoma, the son of Monroe and Melanie Benton Williams. He was an Army veteran of WWII. James was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 32 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. James married Loretta Rose Holbert. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Freeman, five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Alexander of Topeka, one grandson and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 SE Washington St. Topeka, Kansas. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by the Kansas Army National Guard. James will lie in state from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dove Cremation and Funeral Service.
