James E. Porter, 75, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
He was born December 5, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Robert and Caldona (Weaver) Porter.
He graduated from Topeka High School in 1964. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 6 years.
James was employed by the City of Topeka as a Firefighter for 13 years. He then worked for Stormont Vail Hospital in the Transportation Dept. for 10 years prior to his retirement.
James married Kaye Frey on August 4, 1967 in Topeka, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye of Topeka; his daughter, Jamie (Bill) Porter-Knox of Topeka; his granddaughter, Mackenzie Knox of Denver, CO; his cousin, Harold (Katherine) Patterson of Vienna, MO; his godson, Steven (Carmella) Blocker of Topeka; his brother-in-law, Randy (Cindy) Frey of Sabetha, KS and his sister-in-law, Linda Frey of Dubois, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Harlan Frey, Jr.; his father and mother-in-law, Harlan (Neola) Frey, Sr.
James enjoyed his motorcycle and classic cars. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
A Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Friday, December 31, 2021 at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
A Funeral Ceremony will begin at 10:00 am in the Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with entombment to follow.
