James R. Young, 75, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at his home.
He was born April 11, 1937 in Kansas City, MO, the son of A. Ralph and Eleta Jewett Young. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and was a Marine Corps veteran. Jim later received a Degree in Economics with a minor in History from Washburn University in Topeka. He was employed by Kansas Secured Title and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he retired in 1980. He was a member of Topeka Baptist Church and the Capital City Cowboys.
James married Shirley A. Brown on April 28, 1961 in Independence, MO. She survives. Other survivors include their three children, Sherri Young, Connie (Lloyd Jr.) Lavin and Scott (Megan) Young, and three grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua and Piper.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Jim will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Topeka Baptist Church, 4500 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66610.
