James Gordon Waters, Sr., 74, of Tecumseh, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at St. Francis Health Center. He was born on August 27, 1938 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Douglas and Helen Waters.
James was a retired U.S. Army veteran that served with The United States Army Special Forces, Green Berets, during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
On December 12, 1964, he married Barbara Haywood in South Carolina, she survives. Other survivors include, four children, JoAnn and (the late Tom Wunder), Sam Waters, Jimmy Waters, Jr. and Danielle (Jason) Owens all of Topeka; two brothers, Wardie (Rhonda) Davis of Topeka and Joey (Lark) Waters of Tool, TX; one sister, Gloria (Fred) D'Attilio of Topeka; one grandson, Jimmy Waters, III and two great grandsons, Jace and Jarin Owens all of Topeka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow with military honors in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 7 from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
