James R. Wood

James Ray "Jim" Wood, 80, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at a local hospital.

Jim was born October 21, 1941 in Springfield, MO, the son of Claude H. and Fanny M.(Settle) Wood. He graduated from Marshfield High School in Marshfield, MO and Southwest Missouri State University.

He served in the U. S. Navy.

He was an Agent with State Farm Insurance for 37 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church and the White Lakes Optimists.

He enjoyed reading, camping and floating on the rivers, card games and golf.

Jim married Judith Kay Braithwait on April 1, 1961 in Atlantic, IA. His wife of 61 years survives. Other survivors include their children, Jamie (Gerald) Meyer, Topeka, Jill (Scott) Schell, Topeka, John Wood, Meriden; grandchildren, Jason (Aimee) Meyer, Jaron (Jessica) Meyer, Jenna Meyer, Hannah Schell, Tucker (Chiaki) Schell, Brian Wood; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Alexander Meyer, Holden Meyer, Ren Schell; and sister, Claudene Crane, Albuquerque, NM.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Countryside United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside United Methodist Church.
