Dear Mom: You once told me, "Everything will be OK, honey, we have said goodbye a thousand times." This time, however, is very real and has a thunderous finality. You have been a mother, a friend, a mentor, a cheerleader, a sage, and always, a true North from which to guide my life.

You have been someone I've looked to, listened to and always respected. We have shared a passion for reading, word games, and crossword puzzling. (Seriously, couldn't you have let me win just once?) You have been such a huge presence in my life, and now, it is suddenly gone. That void will remain unfilled. That kind of love is rare.

We have known this time was coming and we did everything we could to prepare. You have left journals for me. We have discussed and talked about everything, from the significant to the silly. There are no pink elephants left standing anywhere around us. We have specifically spoken about this particular time, and I have agreed to abide by your wishes.

Finally, I just wanted to thank you mom, for the spectacular journey that you and I have shared for so many years. I will be a kinder woman because of you. I will understand what a real love is because of you. Most of all I will take with me the knowledge that life is lived in the smallest, most mundane of moments, and it is in those moments we learn to embrace the magic of life. All My Love, Dorsey
