Janet Donald Schiesser, 82, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 1, 1940, in Highland Park, Michigan, the daughter of Edward W. and Esther (Parsons) Donald. She resided in Southfield, Michigan, from 1940 to 1958, when she graduated from Southfield High School.
Janet married Norman Schiesser on October 28, 1961 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She received a B.S. in Education from Sterling College in Kansas and an M.S. in Art Therapy from Emporia State University.
A resident of Topeka since 1964, Janet worked for the Discovery School Association as director and teacher for 20 years. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon and Elder and sang in the choir.
Janet was active with the Legacy Community Arts Center, and held memberships with Alpha Delta Kappa women's education fraternity, and The Association for the Education of Young Children.
An accomplished artist and musician, Janet enjoyed painting, making glass beads and jewelry, crafting and playing piano. She was Queen of the Serendipity Saints chapter of the Red Hat Society and loved sharing her homemade baked goods with other residents of McCrite's Plaza.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Schiesser; her daughters, Kerin Schiesser of Vallejo, California, Sharon Schiesser of Topeka, and Robin Schiesser of Seattle, Washington; and her brother, David Donald of Brooklyn, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Robert Donald and H. Van Donald.
Honoring Janet's request, she will be cremated and a Life Celebration will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1821 SW 37th St., Topeka, Kansas 66611 at 1:30 pm Saturday, June 18th. She wished attendees to wear happy colors.
