Janet L. Shupe, 84, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022.
She was born April 14, 1937, in Topeka, the daughter of Leslie and Loretta Esser Thomas.
She was a 1955 graduate of Seaman High School. She was instrumental in establishing the Seaman Historical Society, where she was a Charter Life Member and served as an officer. She also was a founding member and active volunteer of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Topeka.
Janet was a homemaker and a devoted mother and caregiver who enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She married Jackie "Jack" E. Shupe on January 7, 1956 at Holton. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2020. Survivors include children, Eugenia (Karl) Wiggins of Topeka, Leina (Rocky) Cox, of Topeka, Martin (Brenda) Shupe of Owasso, OK and Zanetta (Stan) Aubry, of Imperial, MO; 10 grandchildren, Christopher (Lindsay) Wiggins, Jessica Wiggins (Nick) Unverferth, Ty (Liz) Cox, Paul (Amanda) Cox, Levi (Chelsea) Shupe, Amber Shupe Beck, Cortney Shupe (Kevin) Walter, Raina Shupe (Madison) Minor, Megan Aubry (Scott) Herman, Brody (fiancé, Hannah) Aubry; 13 great-grandchildren, Juliet Wiggins, August Unverferth, Carter and Elise Cox, Wyatt, Kinley and Olivia Cox, Annie and Maggie Shupe, Ethan Lamantia and Aspyn Beck, Garrett and Addison Herman; her sister, Patricia (Don) Finson of Topeka; and her brother, Dwight (Irma) Thomas of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jackie Leon Shupe; her sister, Dee Hafner and her two brothers, William and Doug Thomas.
The family would like to recognize Phoenix Home Care and Midland Hospice for the care they provided.
A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2022, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m., at Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia, Topeka, KS 66605, with inurnment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
