Janice Joy Rooney

Janice Joy "Jan" Rooney, 85, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022.
She was born August 6, 1937, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Cleo and Eva Johnston. She graduated from high school in Boone and attended Iowa State University.
Jan was a member of Topeka Women's Club. She enjoyed their house boat and entertaining at Lake Perry for many years. Jan also enjoyed duck hunting, and was an excellent shot, even spent her honeymoon in a duck blind. She was an avid ballroom dancer and cherished her weekly bridge group. Jan was an incredibly talented seamstress, figurine painter, and her delicious cooking was enjoyed by many over the years.
Jan married Charles H. Rooney, Jr. in November of 1965. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles H. "Buzz" Rooney, III and Shawn M. Rooney.
Survivors include her son, Kevin Rooney and his wife Cindy; six grandchildren, Chelsea Schmidtlein and her husband Kyle and Brian Rooney and his wife Mackenzie, Stacey Rooney, Megan Rooney, Shawn Rooney, and James Rooney; and 11 great-grandchildren, including Charlotte and Benjamin Rooney and Merrick Schmidtlein.
A celebration of Jan's life will begin at 10am on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Dove Cremations & Funerals Southwest Chapel, 37th & Wanamaker Rd.
