Janice K. "Jan" Herschell, 67, of Topeka, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 15, 2011 at her home. She was born September 19, 1943 in Mitchell, SD, the daughter of George and DeOn Johnson Weerts. She graduated from South High School in Omaha, NE in 1961. She has resided in Topeka since 1962.
Jan was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 9 years as a Key Punch Operator, was a floral designer for Dillons located at SE 29th & California for 10 years and The Hat Box for 6 years before retiring. She was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church.
Jan married Larrie Herschell on November 22, 1963 in Berryton. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2007. Survivors include her two children, Lance Herschell of Topeka, DeOn Herschell Cahill and spouse, Jim, of Indianapolis, IN, two grandchildren, Tyler and Shelby Cahill and her sister, Bev Burnette of Arlington, TX.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Janice will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
