Jan Brun, 78, most recently of Topeka, KS and formerly of Ona, WV and Dayton, OH, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. While we are comforted knowing she's in a better place, we'll all miss her positive, loving and forgiving heart. She was a woman who truly lived her life as closely to God's teachings as humanly possible.
Jan was born September 4, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Lorain and Clara Stegeman Hoertt.
She is preceded in death by Jack Brun, her husband of 52 years. She leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity on her 4 children, Chris, Lisa, Steve and Scott, along with their partners in life, Sherrie, Kevin, Susan and Annette. She found incredible joy and pride in her 7 grandchildren, John, Vickie, Evan, Erick, Bryan, Jasper and Kiffin. Her surviving brother is Robert Hoertt of Dayton, OH. She also had a special place in her heart for all of God's creatures, particularly her "good lookin' dog", Rafe.
Jan was a founding member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church and integral member of the RCIA program. She helped hundreds of adults begin their Christian journey through the Catholic faith.
Her own individual battle with Parkinson's occupied much of her energy the last few years, but she always found time to challenge her mind and those around her. She never turned down a game of cards or Dominos, a tricky puzzle or the pages of a good book.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Christ The King Catholic Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Cremation will follow and private inurnment will take place at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
