Janie L. Alexander

Janie L. Alexander, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on August 14, 1936 in DeFuniak Springs, FL, the daughter of James H. and Edith Evans Rhodes. She had resided in Topeka since 1963. She was a member of the Highland Park Southern Baptist Church.

Janie married Vincent L. Alexander on June 6, 1959 in DeFuniak Springs, FL. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her siblings; James, Joyce, Pauline, Samuel and David. Survivors include one son; Thomas L. (Karen) Alexander of Topeka; one daughter, Teresa E. (Keith) Fulton of Berryton, five grandchildren; Nicole, Matthew, Danielle, Josh and Justin, her siblings; Janet Slay, JoAnne Leuders, Edith Hall, Frances Evans, Patricia Peters, Gerald Rhodes and Joe Rhodes.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Janie will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Highland Park Southern Baptist Church, 820 SE 29th St., Topeka, KS 66605.
