Janis K. Workman, 52, Topeka, died Monday, June 7, 2004 at Midland Hospice House after a three year battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 18, 1951 in Topeka, the daughter of Dale and Dolores Farris Williamson. She graduated from Highland Park High School, where she participated in band, and was a member of Scot Singers and participated in several musicals. She then attended Pittsburg State University, and sang professionally in Florida and later with the Topeka Symphony Choir.
Janis has worked for WIBW Radio for the past 24 years as the traffic/continuity director. She attended Lawrence Heights Christian Church, volunteered for Meals On Wheels, Topeka Rescue Mission, and Sheltered Living.
Janis loved remodeling and helping others with interior decorating. She especially loved her cats, Bosco, Buffy, and Emmy.
She married Stephen L. Workman on Aug. 10, 1989. He survives. Other survivors include her parents, Dale and Dolores Williamson of Topeka, two sisters, Brenda Simpson of Topeka, Carol Hill-Roberts of McFarland, grandmother, Dorothy Hay of Paola, two step-children, Kim Reser-Shipman and Dusty Workman, both of Overbrook, four grandchildren, Cody Reser, Austin Reser, Jayke Workman, and Peyton Workman, one niece, Tina, and two nephews, Mike and Heath.
Services will be 10:00 am Friday at Mt. Hope Chapel with entombment in Mt. Hope Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 pm Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
