Jay Armstrong passed away on 9-19-19 tragically from a heart attack. His family asks for your prayers to get them through this time. He had a heart of gold that did not know a stranger. He knew, cared about and loved so many people thru outdoor sports, his work and family.
Jay was born July 31, 1963 in Salina, the son of Harold "Army" and Marjorie (Garlick) Armstrong. He graduated from Mission Valley High School in 1981.
He was employed by Drywall Construction, Inc. and Joyce Brothers Inc. He was a meticulous worker and took pride in his work and enjoyed a strong bond with his co-workers. He cherished the brotherhood he had with all of his friends.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies: Steve Wyre, Mike Ham, Toby Weishaar, Dan Durkes; and countless others. Jay told many stories of his hunting adventures that many of you have probably heard numerous times. He spent many hours training his beloved dogs, Bea, Benelli, Sassy Tri Star, Ace, Jade and Kate. He enjoyed spending countless hours riding his motorcycle with his wife, friends and family. Family was his number 1 priority.
Jay married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Redmon on December 30, 1983 at the United Methodist Church in Alma. They cherished 36 years of friendship, partnership and marriage. Together they raised 2 amazing strong children, son, Tyler (Stacy) Armstrong, Blaine, MN; daughter, Heather (Joshua) Joyce, Topeka. They have 8 amazing grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Tyler's children are Chase, Kylie, Carter, Christian and Kyndalyn; and Chase's children are, Khloei and Rylei. Heather's children are Elycia, Eva and Roslynn. He is also survived by siblings, Donna Long of Missouri, Ron Armstrong of Lawrence, Joannie (Tom) Grist of Topeka, Judy (Mark) Flagler of Rossville; his "Outlaw" sisters, Suzie Yates, Amy Redmon, Twila Wollenberg, Wendy Redmon-Page, and Becky Redmon; father/mother-in-law, Ron and Janet Redmon, Alma; twenty nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and great-nieces, nephews and cousins. He has joined his loved ones, grandparents, Paul and Viola Armstrong, Wilmur and Edna Garlick; parents, Harold and Marjorie Armstrong; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and John Chaney; brothers-in-laws, Clyde Wayne Long, H. Lee Yates, Michael Redmon; grandchildren, Joseph Armstrong and baby girl Joyce; and many of his cherished friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 304 located at 3906 NW 16th, Topeka, KS starting at 5:00 pm. Jay wanted a celebration of life, so bring your favorite adult beverage and light food will be provided.
The family requests that no flowers be sent and a memorial may made to Nancy Armstrong, sent in care of CoreFirst Bank in Topeka to be given to the Alzheimer's Association and to the American Heart Association.
