Jay W. Stires, 75, of Berryton, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017.
He was born March 3, 1942, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Jessie and Pauline (McMurtrey) Stires. He earned his Master's Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Kansas and worked for the Washburn Rural School District, retiring in 2013.
Jay was a member of the Jayhawk Area Council Boy Scouts of America.
Jay married Kathleen C. Stires on May 29, 1971 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She survives.
Other survivors include son, Kelly (Heather) Stires; daughter, Jamie (Russell) Hardin; grandchildren, Lilli, Cole, Tom, Ely, and Lyn; and brother, Jim Stires.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66606. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Jayhawk Area Council Boy Scouts of America or Topeka Civic Theatre.
