Jean Bachman VanAtta, 95, of Topeka, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015. She was born November 17, 1920, in Protection, Kansas to Merit E. and Claretta Bachman. Jean graduated from Topeka High School and Strickler Business College.
Jean worked as a legal stenographer for the law firm of Fisher, Patterson, Sayler, & Smith for 46 years, until her retirement in 1997.
Jean married John (Jack) H. Knight Jan. 2, 1941. Jack died Feb. 25, 1966. She married Virgil L. VanAtta on Sept. 16, 1972. He died Sept 18, 1980.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Bonnie DeWeese of Topeka, Kansas and Vicki Knight of Las Vegas, Nevada; four granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren and her sister, Carol Phillips of Topeka.
There will be no funeral service per her request.
