Jean-Claude Lafleur, 68, of Topeka, passed away June 1, 2017.
He was born September 22, 1948, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Carmen Sue Guillaume and Joseph Lafleur. He spent his early years in Haiti before moving to Brooklyn, New York to live with his aunt, Renee Joseph. Jean-Claude attended Our Lady of Good Council and Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, before joining the United States Army. After serving in the Vietnam War, he moved to Topeka, Kansas where he was married and had his three children. While in Topeka he also studied psychology at Washburn University. After leaving the military he worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber and Southwestern Bell before working and retiring from Lexington Park Assisted Living in 2015. Jean-Claude was an avid reader who loved sports, regularly cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs.
Jean-Claude married Dora M. Hymon on January 27, 2007. He leaves his loving wife to cherish his memory.
Other family members left to cherish his memory include his children, Maurice Lafleur of Baldwin, KS, Camille Lafleur of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jacques Lafleur of San Rafael, CA, as well as his step-son, Eric Jackson, Kansas City; friend and mother of his children, Loyce Jean Lafleur; grandchildren, Kaleb Chance, Jalen Chance, and James Lafleur; siblings, Edwidge, Joelle, and Steve Lafleur of Montreal, Quebec and Dimitrih Lafleur of Toronto, Ontario; Jean Robert Faustin of Topeka, KS and Danielle Jones of Mount Vernon, NY; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his Aunt Renee Joseph.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66606, where the family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery located at 3616 SW 6th, Topeka, Kansas, 66606.
