Jean C. Gray, 92, died Friday, January 4, 2008 at Brewster Place, Topeka, Ks., where she had resided since 1988. Mrs. Gray was born in Topeka on March 16, 1915, the daughter of James A. and Bertha H. Campbell, and attended Topeka Public Schools. Mrs. Gray graduated from Washburn University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She married David E. Gray, MD, on June 16, 1940, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1993.
Mrs. Gray was a homemaker and was active in community organizations including the Junior League, Kappa Alpha Theta alumni, Washburn University alumni, Stormont -Vail Hospital Auxiliary, Junior Social Service, and the Mulvane Art Center. She was a member of First Congregational Church.
Mrs. Gray is survived by two daughters; Joan G. ( Dr. John) Hartung, Indianola, Iowa, Dr. Barbara Gray, Clinton, Mo; one granddaughter, Jill Hartung, Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, J.D.( Nichole) Hartung, Altoona, Iowa and Dr. Jeff ( Pam) Hartung, Indianola, Iowa; 5 great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mary (Don) Green, California; one half-sister , Susan Turner (Jim), Topeka; 7 nieces and 2 nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2008 in the Fink Living Room at Brewster Place Health Center. Inurnment will occur at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
