Jeanne P. Reynolds

December 7, 1927 — May 31, 2016

Jeanne Peterson Reynolds, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at Stormont Vail Hospital Tuesday, May 31, 2016.

She was born January 27, 1927, in Miami, Florida, the daughter of Clarence and Myrtle Irene Peterson. She had a twin sister, Elaine, who died at an early age. She also had two older brothers, Bill and Cyrus who preceded her in death. She lost her father at an early age as well.

Shortly after her father's death, the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where her family lived. Her mother raised all three children on her own. Minnesota was the perfect place to pursue her passion of ice skating. She began skating when she was young and continued to the highest level, winning national honors. She paid for college by teaching skating and even taught women who participated in the Olympics.

Her passion for sports did not stop at skating. She loved to snow ski, play golf and tennis. Through the age of 70, she was able to slalom water ski. She also was a big fan of sports, especially KU basketball.

Jeanne was an extremely good student and was Valedictorian of her high school. She attended the University of Minnesota and was the first woman to earn a business degree. She was president of her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. While at the university, she was nominated to be the Snow Queen. Her escort was her husband to be, Frederick P. Reynolds. It was a love to last 55 years.

Fred and Jeanne left Minnesota for business opportunities and made their homes in Sioux Falls, SD, Sioux City, IA, St. Joseph, Mo and finally making their home in Topeka. They were blessed with three children Fritz, Robbin and Cindy. Jeanne was a partner to Fred in their numerous business ventures and was a leader in her own right, serving as the Girl Scout area president and PTA president. She was also a board member for the Topeka Zoo, Brewster Place and was a deacon at First Congregational Church.
She was a beloved wife and mother and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a son, Fritz and daughters Robbin Reynolds and Cindy (Brad) Owen; grandchildren Brian, Ali, Christopher, Katie Reynolds, Kim and Mike Owen and Laini Reynolds.

Interment will be private.
