Jeannette Ann (Martin) Savely, 74, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at her home due to Parkinson's disease and related complications. She was born September 13, 1938 in Tecumseh, MO, the daughter of Richard R. and Juanita (Kesterson) Martin. She graduated from Bloom High School in western Kansas and attended Pratt Community College.
Jeannette had braved the debilitating effects of Parkinson's disease since 1974. She worked as a secretary for the Kansas Department of Transportation from 1969 until her condition required her to take a disability retirement in 1988. She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church since 1963 and a member of the Wesleyan Circle there. She was a devoted mother, staunch friend and an avid gardener.
Jeannette married E. Jack Savely, Jr. on July 22, 1958 in Wichita, KS. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her grand-daughter, Jessica A. Savely. Survivors include three children, Jacque Ann (Bob) Murray, Terri L. Bezek and James A. Savely, all of Topeka, five grandchildren, Richard A. Savely, Erin (Joe) Mortensen, Sarah Bezek, Rachel Bezek, Jackson Murray, three great-grandchildren, Michael and Teegan Savely and Kenley Mortensen, and three brothers, James Royce Martin of Stuart, FL, Richard T. Martin of Topeka and Paul G. Martin of Merriam, KS.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Countryside United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Jeannette will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Michael J.
