Jeffrey Alan Hanser

October 22, 1959 — October 31, 2022

Jeffrey Alan Hanser, 63, of Wood River, Illinois, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at his brother's home in Topeka after a long battle with cancer. He was born at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois to his parents Thomas & Cleo (Flood) Hanser on October 22, 1959.

Jeff attended various high schools throughout southern Illinois and graduated from O'Fallon Township High School in 1979. He attended vocational school at Control Data Institute earning a certification in Information Technology (IT) in 1985.

In 1983, Jeff met, who would become his wife, Paula A Gehrig. They were united in marriage in 1984 in East Alton, IL. Jeff and Paula were blessed with a son, Matthew Philip Hanser on January 25th, 1986. Although the marriage between Jeff and Paula ended in 1995, they remained friends and continued to raise Matthew together.

Jeff 's work history included: working for Kensco Corporation from 1984 - 1995 and most recently Olin Corporation in East Alton as a Senior Support IT Specialist between 1995 and 2016 when he went on disability due to a diagnosis of lung cancer in 2011 followed by brain cancer in 2012.

Family was important to him. His son, Matthew was his pride and joy. He and his brother, Cliff and sister, Tina grew up together very close and shared many experiences both good and bad as the youngest of 5. He had close relationships to aunts, uncles and cousins all of whom lived in/around the vicinity of St. Louis.

Jeff enjoyed: nature, camping, fishing, coin collecting, stamp collecting, dvd collecting, reading about different kinds of history but specific favorite topics were WWII and Egyptian.

Little known fun facts about Jeff include: living on the same exact street with 3 different house locations between 1984 and 2022; consistently watched MASH to the point he indicated there were probably only 6 or so episodes he could not repeat by memory and there was not 1 that he could say he hadn't seen.

Jeff was proceeded in death by his father Thomas Hanser; step-father Jack Warren; mother, Cleo B (Flood) Warren; brother-in-law Robert Lindauer; mother-in-law, Juanita Gehrig; father-in-law Philip M Gehrig; brother-in-law Denis Gehrig; grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jeff is survived by his son Matthew Hanser and fiancé Kelsey Doty; brother, Gary Hanser and wife Ruth, brother, Clifford Hanser and wife Patricia; sisters, Cathy Lindauer and Eva (Tina) Hanser, many nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.

Jeff will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held spring of 2023 and his cremains will be scattered by family at a location dear to Jeff.
