Jesse Lee Byrd, 83, Topeka, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Colon, Panama Canal Zone, the son of Dr. Jesse Lee and Louise Rice Byrd. He graduated from Cristobal High School in the Canal Zone in 1943, and received a BS Degree from Georgia Tech University in 1951. He completed his autobiography in 2006, and a copy is in the Library of Congress.
Mr. Byrd lived in eight states, and came to Topeka in November, 2002 from Jackson, MS, where he had served as President of United Security Life Insurance Company for eleven years before retiring.
He married Elizabeth Daniell on June 6, 1947 in Atlanta, GA. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Stotlar of Topeka; his sister, Caroline Hirsch of Niceville, FL; two grandsons, Eric and Jason Stotlar; five great-grandchildren, Quincy Catherine Stotlar, William Walter Storlar, Teague James Stotlar, Jonah Boyd Stotlar, and Beckett James Stotlar.
Cremation is planned. Plans for a memorial service are pending.
