Jessie Corpening

May 31, 1931 — February 19, 2014

Jessie May Roseanna Claypole Webb Corpening, formerly of Topeka, went to be with her Lord and Savior February 19, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Jessie was born May 31, 1931 in Orrick, Missouri to William Franklin Claypole and Eugenia May (Jones) Claypole.

She is survived by her husband James Corpening, of Osage City; her children: John (Phyllis) Webb, Ron (Theresa) Webb, Debbie (Greg) Stadler all of Topeka, Don (Sandy) Webb of Berryton, Rita (Larry) Berry of Tecumseh, Pam (Wade) Handley of Burlington, Jim (Wendy) Corpening of Rossville; two step-children Debbie Pitts of Osage City and Jimmy (Cheri) Corpening of Lawrence; 96 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren with three more on the way; her sister Vivian Walls of Skiatook, OK; along with many nieces and nephews.

In her early childhood days she lived in Ottawa, Kansas. In the 1940's she and her mother moved to Topeka and she graduated from Seaman High School. On September 7, 1948, Jessie married Frank Webb in Topeka. Born to them were seven children. They were later divorced. Jessie remarried on December 7, 1963 to James H. Corpening in Nowata, OK at her father's home. From that she gained two more children. With nine children, there were many camping and vacation trips taken to go see places they hadn't been to.

Jessie wore many hats in her lifetime. She started her working career at Blair Cleaners in Topeka. From there she worked at Katz Drugs, Hallmark Cards, USD 450 Shawnee Heights as a bus driver, managed Clark Oil, and Jostens Yearbook where she retired in 2002. She and James took many trips setting up a booth at fairs all over selling many things, often taking some of their grandchildren with them for help and to spend time with them. They later opened up a flea market in McComb, MS and then moved back to Topeka closing their last store in 2011.

Jessie was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a 4-H leader when her children belonged to the Riverside 4-H Club. Her hobbies through the years were gardening, reading, sewing, crocheting and bingo. She always made sure she crocheted a baby afghan for each of her grandbabies so they could be wrapped with love from her.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents William and May Claypole, step-mother Beaulah Grove, brothers William Claypole Jr., Fred Claypole, and Charles "Red" Claypole, step-sister Marlene McKain, and her great-granddaughter Andrea Briggs.
