Jessie Helen Whitaker, 92, left us on November 25, 2013 at her home at Lexington Park in Topeka, KS. She was born on February 13, 1921 to George A. and Alphronia (Buckridge) Neal. She grew up on the family farm outside Caldwell, KS and graduated from Caldwell High School and Wichita State University in 1943 with an education degree.
While teaching at the rural high school in Almena, KS, she met and married Dale Whitaker on June 3, 1945. She was the matriarch of her family and cherished her role as grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, and her oldest son Neal. She is survived by her husband Dale, sons Mark (Barbara) and Tom (Vicki), daughter-in-law Karla, and five grandchildren: Tracy, Spencer, Blake, Katerina and Paige, and two great-grandchildren: Grace and Hunter.
Jessie was active in the First Presbyterian Churches of Hutchinson and Topeka and active in the PEO Chapter AJ of Topeka, KS.
A private family celebration will be held at a later date in Estes Park, Co. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Topeka Rescue Mission, PO Box 8350, Topeka, KS 66608.
