Jimmie Lon Thompson, 79, Topeka, died November 8, 2010. He was born March 28, 1931 to Idris Hytower and Birdie Mae (Cannon) Thompson at Binger, Oklahoma where he lived for 8 years. The family moved to Andarko, OK where he resided until he entered the Army in 1949. He served with the Oklahoma National Guard from 1947 to 1949. He was discharged from the Army in 1952 at the rank of Corporal. He lived in Manhattan, Kansas, and Arkansas City, Kansas before moving to Topeka.
He retired in 1984 after having served the Topeka area as a Kansas State Highway Patrolman for 25 years. He was a gunsmith for 45 years and a member of Capital City Gun Club. As hobbies, Jimmie enjoyed computers, history, target shooting and guns.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Dorothy June (Robinson) who he married on June 4, 1960 at Topeka, Kansas. Also surviving are his son, Marc (Mary) Thompson; his sister, Becky Thompson; his granddaughter, Marissa Thompson and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Lane; three sisters, Xyla, Juanita, and Betty; and his brother, Buck.
By his request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Nov. 21, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Martin Creek Apartments, 4950 SW Huntoon, Topeka, KS
