Jo Ann Hedges, 72, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Care, Topeka.
She was employed by McCormick-Mathers School Book Publishing Co from 1960 – 1966, then the KS Department of Education until her retirement in 1993.
She was born on October 8, 1933 in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of Jacob and Maude (Davis) Wissman. She attended schools in Sedalia, graduating from Smith-Cotton High School, and attended Business College.
She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, and previously served as Sunday school secretary, church clerk and taught the young adult bible study class. She was also in the Gideon's International Auxiliary. Traveling and sight seeing were some of her favorite activities.
She married Ernest G. Hedges on September 18, 1960 in Sedalia, Mo. He survives.
Other survivors include her brothers; Cleo, Jacob, and Donald "Don" Wissman, and a sister, Bonnie Wissman-Dick, all of Sedalia. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Chester and Eldon; and sisters, Ann Wissman-Richards, and Jane Wissman-Montgomery.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2006 at Highland Park Baptist Church. Burial will be at approx. 3 p.m. Monday afternoon at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, MO. Mrs. Hedges will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel after 1 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
