Joan Ellen Lopez

Joan Ellen Lopez, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at her residence. She was born May 8, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Charles A. and Maude E. (Sullivan) Smith.
Joan grew up in Soldier and graduated from Soldier High School in 1952. She moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1956 and returned to Topeka in 1978. She retired in 1998 from the State of Kansas, Department of Printing.
Survivors include children, Lyndon Weddle, Cynthia (David) Stuart, both of Topeka, Dean Lopez of Osage City, Kansas and Christian Lopez of Duluth, Minnesota, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Bryan and Michael Weddle, one brother, Leonard Smith and one sister, Stella Scofield.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), 30 North LaSalle St., Ste. 4300, Chicago, Illinois, 60602-2584.
