Joanne Wallace Brier passed away January 31, 2014 at Midland Care Hospice House. She was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Jim Brier, to whom she was married for 67 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Liesmann George), Quincy, IL, Susan Killough (Scott), Lawrence, KS and Lisa Gordon (Mike), Topeka; five grandchildren: Katie Kelly, Betsy Pepe, Amelia Emra, James Gordon, and Molly Gordon; two great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Clara Kelly.
Joanne was born in Wichita, KS and grew up on the 101 Ranch in Oklahoma, a place where she had many adventures. She moved to Topeka when she was 12 where she attended Roosevelt Jr. High, Topeka High School and Washburn University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She graduated from the University of Maryland.
While raising their three children Joanne was an active member of the Topeka community. She served as an Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church and as President of Topeka Jr. League where she held lifetime membership. She was a member of PEO, Kansas State Wildflower Board, Girl Scout Board, Topeka Audubon Society and Lets Help. She also enjoyed nature and the outdoors which included golf, tennis, bird watching, and many years as a girl scout leader. Most of all Joanne loved spending time with her family by whom she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 3, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison, Topeka, Kansas 66612.
