Joe D. Smith, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023. He was born November 19, 1949 in Emporia, the son of LaMoyne M. and Mary L. (Shepherd) Smith.
Joe graduated from Topeka West High School and attended Emporia State University and Washburn University. He was employed by Laird Noller Ford as an Auto Body Repairman for over 40 years before retiring in 2015.
Joe married Jane L. Wilch on August 23, 1969 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include children, Patrick Smith of Topeka and Jody Johnson of Topeka, four grandchildren, Tayler, Jordan, Jacob and Trevor, three great-grandchildren, Aspyn, Raelynn and Bowan and his sister, Diana McGuire of Topeka.
Joe was preceded in death by one grandson, Tristan and his son-in-law, Gary Johnson.
A Celebration of Joe's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Inurnment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, Kansas 66506.
Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
