John Becerra Jr., 77, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at his residence. He was born on June 27, 1928, in Kansas City, KS, the son of John and Lucy Olvera-Becerra. He was an order filler for the H.D. Lee (Lee Jeans) company in Kansas City, where he retired. He was an avid KU & Kansas City Chiefs fan, and attended games whenever possible.
Mr. Becerra is survived by his childhood sweetheart and best friend of 56 years, Della Becerra of the home, one daughter, Theresa Becerra of Topeka, three sons; Mike of Topeka, Richard of Edgar Springs, MO, and Tony of Topeka, two grandchildren of the home; Sheri and Mary. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, brother Joe from Kansas City, KS, sisters; Pat, Rosie and Lydia from MO, and Lucy from San Diego, CA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel with burial following at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Mr. Becerra will lie in state after noon Monday at the funeral home with family visitation from 6-8 that evening.
