Jack Fitzpatrick died peacefully on March 6th, 2024. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York on December 30th, 1940, and has resided in Topeka, Kansas since 1974.
Jack earned a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University, a master's degree from UCLA, and a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed clinical training in psychoanalysis from the Topeka Psychoanalytic Institute in 1985.
Jack taught at Phillips Exeter Academy, the University of California, Berkeley, Kansas University, and the Topeka Psychoanalytic Institute. He was a co-founder of the Psychohistory Review. He was employed at the Menninger Clinic from 1974 until 1989, when he left to co-found the Family Business Resource Center with his wife, Anne Francis. He also wrote a number of books and essays on family business succession and psychohistory.
Jack was an avid athlete who played baseball and basketball in college. While attending graduate school, he played for the Palo Alto Oaks. He also played professional baseball for three years. He was called up to the Red Sox but declined because, in his words, "I figured my brain would last longer than my pitching arm." He coached youth softball teams in Topeka and played on the Topeka Reds from 1993 until the conclusion of the Over-30 baseball league in 2019. Jack is survived by his wife, Anne Francis, three daughters, Sarah (Josh Gaetjen) of New Haven, CT, Maia (Jay Carthaus) of South Londonderry, VT, and Caitlin (Derrick King) of Jacksonville, FL, as well as three grandsons, Wyatt Glenn, Lucian Gaetjen, and Theo Gaetjen.
