John Floyd Thornton

John F. Thornton, 67, passed away Nov. 8, 2012.

He was born July 18, 1945, in Radford, Virginia, the son of Ronald and Grace Reiss Thornton. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University earning a degree in mathematics. John was a self-published writer, loyal and loving husband, and political activist. He was very well known for his generosity.

On April 22, 1978, in Topeka, John married Jane Dobbs. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2003. Survivors include son Matt (Katie) Thornton, Lawrence; brother, Ronald Thornton, Jr.; grandson, Fox Thornton.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 Minnesota, Topeka. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at Burden Cemetery in Burden, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001-5004.
