John H. Vigneron, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at a local nursing home.
He was born on May 10, 1924 in Topeka, KS the son of Marius Madar Vigneron and Lillian Marie Butler Vigneron.
John grew up in Topeka, and attended Highland Park High School, and graduated from there in 1943. He then joined the US Navy Air Force, and served during WWII. On May 8, 1948, in Coffeyville, KS he was married to Marjorie C. Reiber Hutton, she survives. After returning, he attended Washburn University, and received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration. He taught at Havensville KS High School, where he was also Principal for 2 years. He was also Principal at Bern, KS for 1 year. He was a Program Administrator for the Kansas State Department of Education for 20 1/2 years. He was the Chairman of Director of Accreditation and Certification for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools for 16 years. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals.
He belonged to the Highland Park Methodist Church, and was a Scottish Rite, a member of the Masons, and the Arab Shrine, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Marie Chapter 462., and a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Marge of Topeka, KS; 2 Daughters: Carole Ann Greene, of Topeka, KS, and Michelle Marie Young, of Topeka, KS; 10 Grandchildren; 14 Great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by a son, Marius Jon Vigneron in 1999 , and one brother, Dale Vigneron.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at 11:00am at Penwell Gabel Highland Chapel. John will lie in state on Tuesday, January 14, after 12 noon. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 6 to 8pm.
Burial will follow at Topeka, Cemetery.
