John R. Higgins

John R. Higgins, 75, Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017.

He was born May 16, 1942, in Marion, Kansas, the son of Boyd and Hazel (Jones) Higgins. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Butler Community College.

John was a programmer at Blue Cross & Blue Shield for 25 years, retiring in 1998.

He was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

John married Mary L. Krueger on October 23, 1965 in Wichita. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2007. Survivors include two daughters: Marci (Mike) Daugherty and Wendi (Roger) Morris; five grandchildren: Lacy Weber, Hannah Daugherty, Hayli Daugherty, Max Morris and Josie Morris; two great-grandsons: Preston and Theodore Weber and two sisters: Sandy Doty and Karen Higgins-Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd, Topeka, KS 66604.
