John Joseph Lorence

January 24, 1931 — June 11, 2013

John Joseph "Jack" Lorence, Jr., 82, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 and is now awaiting the return of his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He was born January 24, 1931 in Bellaire, OH, the son of John Joseph Lorence, Sr. and Mary Agnes (Andreas) Lorence.

Jack graduated from Bellaire High School in 1949. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and served as a Staff Sargeant during the Korean Conflict. He came to Forbes AFB from Puerto Rico in 1952. Jack met Lois Rathbun in Topeka in February of 1953 and they married on May 8th, sharing 60 years together.

Jack was employed by Fleming & Company, Noller Ford, and Wilcox R.V. Center; worked 4 years as General Manager with 2 car dealerships in McPherson, KS, and retired in 2005 after 15 years with John Hoffer's in Topeka. He was a Cub Master and Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of the American Legion, Post 1, the American Baptist Association, and New Beginnings Fellowship at Luther Place II.

Jack will be remembered by his family and friends as being fully committed in taking care of his family, a diligent and faithful worker, and for being meticulous in his appearance and attire.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Michael Lorence (Sheila), Jeffery Lorence, Lori Clark (Scott); 6 grandchildren, Keri Kuechel (Bill), Nate Lorence, Jack Lorence, (Jessie), Ryan Clark (Heather), Ashley Hill (Grant), and Jocelyn Clark; 4 great-grandchildren, Braeden Hill, Abryelle Hill, Zayne Hill and Aaron Kuechel; and his sister Dorothy Lusky. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Catherine Briggs.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15th at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66606. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will be at a later date in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675; The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 599 Topeka, KS 66601; or charity of the donor's choice.
